REES Rotary Airlocks are used in dust collection and pneumatic conveying systems at gravity-fed discharges of cyclones and filters. Rotary airlocks hold pressure or vacuum in the air system while continuously feeding the separated material to a transfer system or storage bin. This prevents loss of air and maintains a flow of material between different process components and pressures.
REES Airlocks are used in low pressure air systems where the bulk material flow rate is high. Flexible rubber tipped rotors help reduce the chance of material plugging and allow for wiper blade replacement. The fabricated steel housing and chain-drive components are built to withstand continuous heavy duty on-line operation.
For lower material flow rate or lighter duty applications, Rees-Memphis provides cast iron airlocks in direct- drive or chain-driven arrangements.

Rotary Feeders
Rotary Feeders are used to regulate the flow of materials from one chamber to another sharing the same pressure. Feeders are required in high pressure systems and are common in the pneumatic conveying of dry free-flowing product materials such as powders, granules, crystals or pellets.
Airlocks can also be used as feeders to minimize system air loss while regulating the flow of material between chambers have differing pressures.
Design Specifications
In determining the best airlock or feeder to use, our sales engineers must consider several application parameters to determine the design specifications including:
- Material characteristics
- Bulk density of material (lbs./cub.ft.)
- Maximum particle size (microns)
- Material flow rate (lbs./hour)
|
- Airlock, feeder, or both
- Temperature & humidity above & below airlock
- Pressure reading above & below airlock
- Size of conveying line
